Focus and Perspective
Investors faced new challenges during the first quarter of the year as markets fell into correction territory. From red hot inflation to a Fed rate hike, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to rising oil prices, investors had to remain disciplined in a rapidly changing environment.
Markets widely expected the Fed to begin rising policy rates and for them to end its asset purchase program in response to rising inflation and strong economic growth. Unlike the Fed, the conflict in Ukraine was a surprise for financial markets and impacted the perception of risk and energy prices. Historically, investment markets do not like uncertainty which was very apparent in the wake of recent market volatility. Now more than ever, it is imperative to focus on your long-term investment and retirement goals and seek the advice of your trusted advisors when your sentiments wane.
